This treatment is one of several aeration treatment options available for your lawn. The main objective of this treatment is to remove lateral growth and surface thatch, which is the main contributor of moss on UK lawns. A specialised machine is used to make slits in your lawn surface which improves drainage and aeration of the lawn surface.

Scarification should NOT be done with an ordinary lawn rake, which is hugely inefficient at removing moss and may rip up patches of your turf. Scarification is recommended on an annual basis and is one of the leading treatments to control persistent moss on lawns. The treatment, which is carried out in Spring, usually followed by over-seeding.
